When you've got a high-traffic commercial staircase - especially one leading into a property with hotel guests, retail shoppers, and everyday foot traffic - safe access isn't optional. It's a requirement. And not just legally. It's the right thing to do for the people using your property every single day.
This was a full ADA-compliant handrail installation on a wide exterior staircase at a multi-use commercial property. Wide steps like these see a ton of use, and without proper railings, they become a liability. We fabricated and installed steel handrails on both sides of the staircase, with the correct graspable profile, proper extensions at the top and bottom, and solid anchorage throughout. Everything built to meet ADA standards - not just close to them.
What we pay attention to on jobs like this goes beyond just bolting something in place. The geometry has to be right. The height, the extension past the last step, the return ends that loop back down so nobody catches a sleeve or a bag on a sharp terminus - it all matters. These details are what separate a compliant install from one that creates problems down the road during an inspection or, worse, after someone gets hurt.
Commercial property managers and developers sometimes underestimate how much goes into a railing install that actually holds up to scrutiny. We've seen plenty of railings that look fine on the surface but wouldn't pass a real ADA compliance review. We don't cut corners on the specs, and we don't guess. Every install we do is built to be solid, safe, and correct the first time.
Whether it's a single staircase or a full property buildout, we handle commercial railing work that has to perform. If your property has stairs that need compliant railings - or existing railings you're not confident about - we're worth a call.
